About

Background

I'm a documentary photographer based in the UK, working primarily in long-form personal projects that examine coastal industry and the people who work it. This body of work has grown alongside commissioned editorial and portrait assignments — the two inform each other.

Most of my time is spent on independent projects: extended series built through repeated visits, gaining access and trust with the people and places I photograph. These projects run over months or years. They sit alongside shorter commissioned work for publications and institutions, and portrait assignments for individuals and organizations.

Approach

I work as a reporter, not a director. The preference is for observation — being present over an extended period, watching how work happens, and stepping in only when the photograph requires it.

This means time. I travel to spend weeks with a fishing community, a boatyard, a processing facility. I return to the same places and the same people. The camera becomes familiar. Trust builds. The photographs that matter emerge from that presence, not from a shot list.

I'll travel for both personal and commissioned work. The method is the same: understand the place, respect the people working there, and let the work speak plainly.

Exhibitions and publications

My work has been exhibited three times, and published in two national magazines. These projects have reached beyond the initial personal commission — they've found an audience among editors, curators, and people who collect and care about documentary work.

Why coastal industry

Traditional coastal trades are disappearing. The people who work in fishing, boat repair, processing, and the trades that support them are rarely documented with seriousness. Their working lives are being erased as industries contract and shift.

I photograph this subject because it matters — because these are skilled people doing hard, real work in specific places, and because the evidence of how they do it should exist. The work is a record, made while it's still happening.
